  1. Today, as the year, 1932, comes roaring in, the winds of change are also ushering in many changes in the McGaheysville-Elkton area community. It has now been three hundred and fifteen years since the Virginia Colony was established at Jamestown, but only sixty-two years since Virginia was under “Marshall Law” following General Robert E. Lee surrendered at Appomattox in April 1865. The automobile had made its débute in to our area, but adequate roads upon which to drive it still loomed in the future. Trains chris-crossed our nation but it wasn’t until the 1920s and '30s that consumers were introduced to freezers when the first electric refrigerators with ice cube compartments came on the market.
